When and Where are your club meetings?

We meet at the Rancho Santa Rosa Clubhouse in Camarillo, on the second Monday of the month from 6-7:30pm.

How do we join and what are the costs?

Enrollment is completed online at ZSuites. Once you complete the online registration you will pay the registration fees online here . The registration fees  this year are $85 per youth and $28 for adult volunteers. Our club also has an annual dues payment of $50 per youth paid by check directly to the club. These dues include a club T-shirt, notebook and pay for our community service project supplies, end of year celebration and end of year membership awards as well as other club activities, equipment,  and supplies.  In addition, some projects may charge a small fee to cover the cost of materials specific to that project; while others will give you a list of supplies to purchase on your own. Many projects have no fee or materials list.

(4-H is a volunteer-run program. We do not require our parents to volunteer during their first year; however, if you are thinking you might want to  lead a project or be a chaperone/ volunteer that attends camps and other activities in the future, you may want to register yourself as well.  If you register as an adult volunteer, because of new legislation there is an online training that is required.  All volunteers receive training and are live scanned and background checked.  If you want to simply have your child explore 4-H, then only register them.  4-H enrollment begins in mid August this year. We are hosting a Meet and Greet event on August 28th  and our first General Meeting is September 11th. You are encouraged to attend the Meet and Greet to meet our community to see if we are a good fit for your family prior to registering.  Please note that 4-H is not a “drop off” program. Parents are required to attend all 4-H events and activities with their youth, or make arrangements with another 4-H parent  to supervise your children.)

What is the time commitment to join 4-H?

The SRV Community Meetings are the 2nd  Monday of the month from 6:00-7:30pm.  These are whole club business meetings, all members are highly encouraged to attend.  Youth Members also attend project meetings based on their interests throughout the month.  Kids choose which projects they want to join. Location, time and dates of those meetings are  based on the schedule developed by the individual project leaders. There are county sponsored events and competitions and State sponsored events and competitions members can attend as well. You get out of 4-H what you put in. So your level of involvement is up to you as a family.

Other Miscellaneous information you may want to know

The focus of 4-H is hands-on learning in person. We call this “Learning by Doing”. Our club prioritizes leadership and community service. You will see that we have a wide variety of projects for the children. The projects we offer are chosen by the adult volunteers who lead them. Children are expected to own their own animals for most animal projects. Rabbits and Cavy are easy to keep in all homes and are great beginner projects for those who want to show an animal at fair.  Animals shown at fair must be owned by you. It is not necessary to own an animal for all the animal projects; for example you do not need your own alpaca for the alpaca project and this is a popular project led by our club.

You are welcome to visit our Meet and Greet in August (or our first meeting in September if you missed our August meeting) Let us know if you plan to attend, we’d love to meet you in person. Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions or if you need any assistance.  The best way to contact us is by email .Santarosavalley4h@gmail.com. If you would like the club leader to call you to discuss 4-H in more detail or answer any questions please provide us with a good contact number.

Additional Steps for Adult Volunteers:

Our family isn't sure about committing to raising an animal. What else does 4-H offer its members?

4-H is about so much more than animals. Check out our projects page to see all of the activities available to our members this year.

How often are meetings held?

General Meetings

There is a monthly meeting for all members that is scheduled for the 2nd Monday of each month 6:00-7:30pm.  At these meetings, membership comes together as a community to hear updates on all of the projects, participate in making club decisions following parliamentary procedures, get to learn from guest speakers, participate in a group activity, and so much more.

Project Meetings

Each of our adult volunteer leaders creates a schedule for their project participants.  Most projects meet once a month. See the Projects Page for details.

What are the different member categories?

Your children, depending on their age, are grouped with same aged peers for the sake of competitions and fair participation. The levels in 4-H are based on the age of the child as of December 31 of the program year. 4-H uses the Danish system for scoring/ judging where each child is scored against a set of judging criteria not compared to others.
