4-H Entomology Contest Guidelines
These guidelines are for the two 4-H entomology contests that are held at the Large and Small Animal Field Day 2024
Below are resources to help you study for the knowledge contest and the Rules for the Photography contest
All Levels
Each level is responsible for all material listed for that level and all previous levels. For example, Intermediates are responsible for both Intermediate and Junior level material.

Entomology Photography Contest open to all 4 Hers
Photographs submitted must be standard photo sizes (4x6, 5x7, 8 x10 or 11x14)
Photos should be mounted with a 1 in. to 2in. border
Photographs must include your name, county, club and age group on the back of the photo
All arthropods in your photos must be properly identified to the Order taxonomic level. See https://entomology.tamu.edu/extension/4-h-entomology-contest- guidelines/ for assistance.
Arthropods appearing on the Study List of Common Insects may be identified to the correct common name (not species name) for bonus points. (see link below for the list)
All photos must be original works photographed by you.
Present one species per photo. Photo may include more than one insect as action shots often can, but the target species must be chosen for identification.
Adult insects should be the focus of the photograph unless the immature stage is the important stage with pest status or particular importance.
Each member may submit a max of 2 photographs
